EVE ADAMS (30’s)
Living beachside in Costa Rica, EVE is a Professor of Marine Biology at Princeton, a sound expert and an occasional passionate guest DJ! She is also the scientific director of ECO2 and a member of the undercover task force.
While surfing with her dog, COOKIE, and recording underwater sound samples, she is rescued from a life-threatening situation by a whale and a pod of dolphins working together. Back in her lab listening to the recordings, she realizes this synchronized inter-species communication may be the beginning of an “animal awakening”. As she continues her experiments, she begins to acquire heightened senses, including ultrasound similar to the sea life she studies.
At her lab at ECO2 HQ, she discovers that genetically speaking, humans are not what we think we are: our DNA is only 1% human and 99% bacterial. This is a profound paradigm shift in understanding life on earth, and an early clue in the investigative thriller aspect of the series.
She reveals to BRAD and JOEL that some humans’ DNA is mutating - a new genetic “code,” related to the changes taking place in the rest of the animal community.
She’s later solicited by TEZLO, who wishes to access her findings and expertise.
JOEL CLEMENTIS (mid 30’s)
JOEL is a Washington D.C. insider challenging environmental corruption from within the system.
An astrophysicist and biochemist, he is close to BRAD, his former mentor at MIT Graduate School. Following Brad’s advice, Joel pursued violators in his role at the EPA, only to have corrupt politics force him to become a whistleblower and resign from the agency under the previous administration. Ironically, he is then appointed as the Secretary of the Environment under the new administration. He interacts with leaders around the world and frequently clashes with Chief of Staff, RON, when lobbyist interests override environmental efforts.
In regular contact with his old friends at ECO2, BRAD and EVE (a former girlfriend), he relies on both to help track the origins and meaning of the global animal awakening, while addressing the resulting crises on multiple fronts. JOEL also secretly delivers confidential intelligence regarding enemies of the environment to ECO2’s undercover task force.
BRAD (late 40’s)
BRAD is the co-founder and charismatic director of ECO2, headquartered in a remote location in the Shetland Islands. An MIT and Cambridge professor and former biologist of the Cousteau team, Brad is the key strategist on ECO2's handling of the daunting challenges facing the planet. He manages a sprawling global network of eco-warriors, while also mentoring an impressive group of scientists from around the world. Brad also heads a clandestine undercover ECO2 Task Force, leading agents like BINA, as they combat polluters and environmental criminals in varying international locations. Though many leading governments seek his expertise, Brad never blinks when taking down corrupt high-level officials, lobbyists, and their greedy corporate sponsors.
Brad’s personal struggle with insomnia haunts him until he realizes he’s channeling high frequency information from the newly discovered and mysterious Collective Intelligence.
BINA KEA (20’s)
A young Asian beauty with a powerful connection to animals, BINA works as an undercover ECO2 agent. Ever since her environmental activist father was killed by corrupt palm oil industrialists while protecting jungle species, she found refuge from her childhood trauma by developing an uncanny ability to communicate and work closely with animals — the only beings she trusts. As such, BINA trains exotic animals to help her on her missions. We first find Bina on a solo sting operation with her trained snake and falcons, as she takes down AHMAD, ringleader of illegal exotic animal traffickers, selling to his network of super-wealthy buyers. Seemingly fearless, BINA will use her wiles to protect nature and the environment from corruption at the corporate and underground level – and sometimes where the two intersect. She later begins to experience the same acute vision capacities as her snakes and falcons.
REEVE TEZLO (40’s)
TEZLO is a tech billionaire, highly intelligent, seemingly arrogant, and considered the leading innovator in the Silicon Valley. he is a major tech supplier of rockets and robotics for MARS 2024 colonization, an option to relocate humanity. Often straddling solutions of remediation and innovation, Tezlo’s Brain Link Corporation proposes to the G20 Governments re-engineering humans to survive climate change. As transhumanism and AI driven cloning gains traction, biohackers create mayhem with digital heists of DNA species codes across the globe. Tezlo attempts to access Eve’s findings and expertise and co-opt her to work with him. She reports this contact to Brad. The ECO2 Task Force keep a close eye on his actions as they remain unclear of the impact of his ultimate goals, concerned about upsetting the balance of nature. Meanwhile ECO2 scientists research and investigate the science and potential outcomes of his efforts which could be a risk for humanity.
